Sooner Recruiting Round Up, Post #8

Norman, OK--SoonerWorld.com is reporting two new committments to the Sooner football program. They are:

1) ****Rufus Lumpkin, Katy (TX), MLB5 (101 OVR)--Rufus Lumpkin has given his verbal pledge to play for the Sooners. The Katy, TX middle linebacker chose the Sooners over an offer from Oklahoma State. Lumpkin also had a large interest in USC, Florida State and Michigan. OU insiders tell SoonerWorld.com that the Sooners are thin at MLB and the addition of Lumpkin should help the team in years to come. His status for 2010 is unknown (redshirt or not?). Most suspect he'll be forced to play due to the lack of depth. The Sooners lose seniors Ryan Reynolds and Mike Balogun, leaving them only with Austin Box having experience. The Sooners have also landed MLB Derek Triplett of Sandusky, OH. Triplett and Lumpkin will likely fight for the second MLB starting slot. The Sooners are reportedly recruiting one other MLB, likely Larry Dortch of Atlanta, GA. Dortch reports on his Myspace and Facebook pages that he has an offer from Oklahoma and has stated he's "basically committed" to the team.

2) ****Edward Leak, Camp Springs (MD), CB20 (119 OVR)--Edward Leak has given his verbal pledge to play his college football in Norman, OK. Leak chose Oklahoma over an offer from Penn State and also had interest in playing for Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame and Georgia. Leak will most likely redshirt in 2010 due to the depth the Sooners have there. Oklahoma also landed a committment from 5* CB prospect Brett Dixon of Ennis, TX earlier in the year. Leak (6'1") and Dixon (6'2") look to form a dominant outside presence in Norman for years to come. Many feel the two are the best recruits at the position in the history of the Sooner program. They have a long way to go if they hope to pass the likes of Derrick Strait and Antonio Perkins.

The Sooner Nation welcomes Lumpkin and Leak to the Sooner family...Welcome!
