Cadets Fight, Fall in the End

Westpoint, NY--This game had blowout written all over it. The mighty Sooners with their Heisman winning QB in tow, would surely come into upper New York and run, pass, smash or whatever they wanted, all over the Cadets. With respect of course, but they'd kill 'em. Right? Right?!

No. This Army team was ready. They knew they had to try and keep the ball away from the Sooners and they did well with that in the first half. They ran to the short side when OU expected the wide side. They passed when expected to run. Ran when expected to pass. Ran when expected to run. Up the gut, left and right. Heck, they led the game 10-0 at the half. The crowd was in a frenzy. Could it be? Could they be witnessing an upset of the mighty third-ranked Sooners on the Army home field? Yeah, maybe...

The second half was different. Oklahoma realized they are Oklahoma and this was Army. Oklahoma had elite athletes. Army had elite soldiers. The Sooners settled down, found a good defense to handle the Army flexbone and ran the ball more. They only allowed 3 points in the last two quarters while scoring 21. The game was finally all but over once OU scored in the 4th quarter and went up by 8 points. Army knew they had to pass and so did the Sooner defense.
Oklahoma goes on to win, 21-13.

The stars of the game for Oklahoma were:
Jermey Calhoun, RB (Player of the Game): 18 rushes, 66 yards, 2 TD's
Sam Bradford, QB: 18/26 for 233 yards (0 TD, 0 INT)
Eric Reese, TE: 5 receptions for 55 yards
RJ Washington, DE: 9TKL, 3TFL, 1 Sack

Oklahoma next travels to Gainesville, FL to face #1 Florida. Army stays home to face Eastern Michigan.
